Democratic Women’s Caucus Chair Condemns President Trump’s Calls for Violence Against Our Veterans and Patriotic Colleagues

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Thursday November 20, President Trump posted on Truth Social that Democratic lawmakers should be arrested and tried, and later described their behavior as “punishable by death.” He also amplified posts calling for them to be hanged. The members Trump targeted included DWC’s Servicewomen, Women Veterans and Military Families Task Force Chair Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), DWC member Maggie Goodlander (NH-02), both veterans, and former DWC member Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), who served three tours in Iraq in the CIA.

DWC Chair Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03)  released the following statement:

“We know what Trump’s calls for political violence look like—I was here on January 6. Now, he’s going even further, asking for patriotic Democratic members of Congress—including current and former DWC members—to be tried and hanged for reminding America about the importance of upholding the Constitution.

Trump has put women’s safety in jeopardy every single day of his administration. And now he’s going after Congresswomen who bravely answered the call to serve their country. They served tours of duty in dangerous places like Iraq. It is absolutely wrong that Donald Trump is putting their lives in danger here in America with his posts. They deserve respect, not death threats.

I denounce this dangerous, disgusting call for political violence and violence against women in the strongest possible terms and demand that my Republican colleagues do the same. Trump must back down before someone dies. It’s outrageous that women are not safe in Trump’s America.”
