The Hill: Democratic Women’s Caucus outlines 2027 budget priorities

A letter written by leaders of the Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) outlines the group’s appropriations priorities for fiscal 2027, days after the White House unveiled its budget requests.

The letter, sent Tuesday to House Appropriations Committee Chair Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and ranking member Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and shared with The Hill, urges the panel to prioritize investments that “meaningfully support women and families across every stage of life.” It categorizes investments under nine different issues.

“These investments will deliver real economic security, broaden access to comprehensive health care, and protect communities across the country,” the lawmakers wrote. “Women deserve an economy that works for them, affordable health care that centers their needs, and safe communities where justice prevails. We urge our Republican colleagues to join us in advancing meaningful results for women and families.”

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández (N.M.), the chair of the DWC, along with Reps. Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.), Emilia Sykes (D-Ohio), Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-Calif.) and Deborah Ross (D-N.C.), signed the letter. Scholten and Sykes are the caucus’s vice chairs, while Kamlager-Dove and Ross co-chair its policy task force.
