We’re going to welcome Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez of New Mexico to the show, she’s also the Chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus. Thanks for joining us, Hi Anna, thanks for having me, and thank you for covering this in depth. I know it's something that is very hard to deal with as someone who saw 341,000 acres of my own hometown go up in flames a while back. Yeah, so you have this first hand experience, you know how deep these wounds go, right, they’re fresh right now, there is a lot of anger, there is a lot of blame going around. The L.A. Fire chief Kristen Krownly is taking some heat for her diversity program that critics have said she did not prioritize skill and strength, and prioritized diversity hires. Is that a fair assessment in your knowledge? What we know is that women can do many things that men can do. To start attacking someone because they happen to be a woman who is a firefighter fails to recognize that we need to do two things. We need to respond from the heart with incredible empathy and sympathy for the incredible pain that people are going through, for the apocalypse that they are living through and we also need to have gratitude for the firefighters and elected officials that are helping out. We need to stop fighting each other, and start fighting the fires. |
