Dem Women’s Caucus Statement on Supreme Court Decision in Moyle v. United States
Washington, D.C. – Today, Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) Chair Lois Frankel (FL-22) released the following statement after the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Moyle v. United States. In a 6-3 vote, the Court ruled to dismiss the case as improvidently granted, meaning the Court should not have accepted the case for review. This decision reinstates a lower court’s order that Idaho cannot prohibit doctors from performing emergency abortions for women with life-threatening pregnancy complications while the case is appealed.
“While we can breathe a sigh of relief today, we can’t ignore the fact that the Court has left the door open for further challenges to abortion care and has not addressed the underlying question at hand,” said Chair Frankel. “Our country remains in a reproductive health care crisis; the Democratic Women’s Caucus will continue to stand up for women’s reproductive freedoms and rights until they are fully restored.”
This decision comes days after the country marked two years since the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision was handed down by Donald Trump’s extreme MAGA Court. The decision overturned Roe v. Wade and ripped reproductive rights away from women, robbing them of the freedom to make their own health care decisions.
