WASHINGTON, D.C. —Today, Democratic Women’s Caucus Chair Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03) released the following statement congratulating Rep. Angie Craig (MN-02) on her election to be the first woman to serve as Ranking Member of the House Committee on Agriculture.

“Today, Representative Angie Craig broke yet another glass ceiling to become the first woman to be Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee. The Agriculture Committee oversees issues that intimately impact women and families. Growing up as a recipient of nutrition assistance and as the granddaughter of an Arkansas farm foreman, Ranking Member Craig knows the importance of these issues firsthand. She is an expert in reaching farmers and rural constituents in her community and beyond. From access to nutrition programs to support for rural housing and child care, Ranking Member Craig will take her experience to lead the fight for women and families during a second Trump administration.

Ranking Member Craig will join four other women Ranking Members in the Democratic Caucus. Contrast that with the House Republican Conference that will not have a single woman elected as Chair of any of the House Committees next Congress.

With 96 women strong, Democrats in the House and in our leadership truly reflect America. We will make sure women’s voices are heard in every corner of Congress.”

Ranking Member-elect Angie Craig shared the following statement on her historic nomination:

“It’s an incredible honor to have been elected as the first woman in history to serve as the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Agriculture,” said Rep. Craig. “I look forward to working with my Democratic colleagues to chart a path forward that strengthens American agriculture and delivers for rural communities – that includes empowering women in ag and championing commonsense policies that improve the lives of women and families.”
