Washington, D.C. – Today, Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) Co-Chairs Congresswomen Lois Frankel (FL-21), Brenda Lawrence (MI-14), and Jackie Speier (CA-14), and Vice Chairs Congresswomen Veronica Escobar (TX-16) and Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement on the urgent need for the Senate to pass the Build Back Better Act.
“The House has done its job; it’s time for the Senate to act and pass the Build Back Better Act. Last week the DWC heard directly from grandmothers and caregivers on why care economy investments in the Build Back Better Act are essential for supporting women and families,” said the Members. “Grandmothers detailed how the expanded Child Tax Credit has been a lifeline in their own homes and in households across the country, preventing families from having to decide between putting food on the table and paying the bills. The last monthly installment of the expanded Child Tax Credit was distributed to working families this week. And as important as the Bipartisan Infrastructure bill is to boosting the economy, the fact remains that 90 percent of hard infrastructure jobs are held by men. BBB is how we ensure women, especially working mothers and women of color, are not left out of this transformational effort. If the Senate does not pass the Build Back Better Act soon, many families will have to make impossible choices next year between child care, food, clothing, heat, internet, or housing for their children. We must extend the expanded Child Tax Credit and invest in child care and universal pre-k, home care, paid leave, and maternal health equity, in order to help women and families succeed.”
