Democratic Women’s Caucus Statement on House Passage of Bipartisan Continuing Resolution

September 30, 2023

Washington D.C. – Today, Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) Chair Lois Frankel issued the following statement on the House passage of a bipartisan 45-day continuing resolution to avert a government shutdown.

“Today, Democrats put people over politics to help defeat the extreme demands of MAGA Republicans.

“For weeks, House Republicans refused to work in a bipartisan manner to fully fund the government—all because they wanted to cut public school funding, slash Social Security, and criminalize abortion. But our caucus fought back, refused to support the devastating cuts and abortion restrictions Republicans wanted, and worked to avoid a devastating government shutdown.

“While this continuing resolution isn’t a permanent solution, it marks an important victory for women and families. As we continue our urgent work to permanently fund the government, we will continue pushing to protect reproductive freedom and provide the resources that families depend on. We also continue to call on Speaker McCarthy to replenish child care resources that working moms depend on, especially as critical child care funding expires tonight.”
