Washington, D.C. –  Today, Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) Co-Chairs Congresswomen Brenda Lawrence (MI-14), Jackie Speier (CA-14), and Lois Frankel (FL-21) and Vice Chairs Congresswomen Veronica Escobar (TX-16) and Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement after oral arguments were heard before the Supreme Court today in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, the most consequential abortion rights case in nearly 50 years.

“We’re not going back! As the Supreme Court heard oral arguments today in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, we know reproductive freedom is at stake,” said the Members. “Right-wing politicians continue to try to control women’s bodies, causing the greatest harm to the most vulnerable, people of color, people in rural communities, low-income families, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, immigrants, individuals with disabilities, and young people. All individuals deserve the freedom to make the best health care decisions for themselves and their families, independent of politics. Today is a clarion call to the U.S. Senate to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, which the House passed in September. This legislation would protect the right to abortion, regardless of zip code, and stop states from enacting discriminatory bans and restrictions against abortion providers.”
