Washington, D.C. – Today, Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) Co-Chairs Congresswomen Brenda Lawrence (MI-14), Jackie Speier (CA-14), and Lois Frankel (FL-21), and Vice Chairs Congresswomen Veronica Escobar (TX-16) and Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued the following statement on the 50th Anniversary of Title IX.
“Fifty years ago, Title IX revolutionized opportunities for women and girls in the classroom and on the field by prohibiting discrimination in education on the basis of sex,” said the Members. “Today, women make up more than half of students in higher education and continue to dominate at every level of athletic achievement, including Olympic sports. As we celebrate these hard-fought achievements, we applaud President Biden for prioritizing efforts to guarantee an educational environment free from sex discrimination by releasing new Title IX draft rules to ensure the promise of equality for all.”
