Democratic Women’s Caucus Leadership Stands with DWC Member Congresswoman LaMonica McIver
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Democratic Women’s Caucus Chair Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03) and Vice Chairs Emilia Sykes (OH-13) and Hillary Scholten (MI-03) released the following statement in support of DWC Member Congresswoman LaMonica McIver (NJ-10):
“Members of Congress conduct oversight daily to protect due process and democracy in this country. It is a key part of our job, and it is our constitutional responsibility. Congresswoman LaMonica McIver visited Delaney Hall, an immigration detention center in her district, to fulfill those oversight duties when she was met with hostility from armed and masked ICE agents. It is clear that this administration has no interest in keeping people, especially women, safe. They are trying to make an example out of Congresswoman McIver with purely political charges. It is absurd.
These charges mischaracterize and distort Congresswoman McIver’s actions. By charging her, this administration is trying to silence dissent and instill fear in the American people and Members of Congress as we work to hold the administration accountable. We will not be silenced. We stand with our sister, Congresswoman McIver, today and everyday.”
