Democratic Women’s Caucus Chair Demands Speaker Johnson Swear In Rep-Elect Adelita Grijalva Today

September 30, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Tuesday September 30, Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) Chair Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03) sent Speaker Mike Johnson a letter urging him to swear in Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva during today’s pro forma session in the House of Representatives. In the letter, Chair Leger Fernández emphasized the importance of making sure the constituents of Arizona’s 7th Congressional District are represented in Congress, especially at a time when Trump and Republicans are attacking women and families at every turn.

Chair Leger Fernández on the necessity to add Rep.-elect Grijalva to Congress and the DWC immediately:

“We look forward to welcoming Representative-elect Grijalva as the 97th Member of the Democratic Women’s Caucus. With women and girls under constant threat by this administration, every woman’s voice is necessary in this fight. Moreover, delaying her swearing in appears to be a clear tactic to put off the release of the Epstein files. This Congress should stand with survivors, not predators.”
