Dem Women’s Caucus Statement on SCOTUS Ruling in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine

Washington, D.C.—Today, Democratic Women’s Caucus Chair Lois Frankel (FL-22) issued a statement following the Supreme Court handing down their decision in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine. The Court unanimously rejected extreme anti-abortion advocates’ attempt to ban mifepristone because the plaintiffs did not have legal standing to bring a claim. While this could leave the door open to new challenges, for now, mifepristone remains available and on the market.

“The Democratic Women’s Caucus has remained steadfast in our belief that access to mifepristone, and all medication, should be based on science, not politics—and that women’s health care decisions should be between her and her doctor, not politicians. Mifepristone is safe and effective. Today’s SCOTUS ruling is a relief, but we know that this fight is not over,” said DWC Chair Frankel. “Don’t be fooled, extreme MAGA Republicans are set on a national abortion ban and these baseless attacks will continue. We must keep fighting back until women have full control over their bodies and health care.”
